Chris Smith Band: LIVE Jam Sessions- New Song, "What I Did Wrong" and Thoughts on Opening for the Pat McGee Band

Normally, the new content I post every Monday for the Chris Smith Band: Home Jam Sessions series are videos or recordings of songs that I put together and record from home.  Go figure.  This weekend was booked up with shows for me.  On Friday, I played a show in Colchester, Connecticut.  On Saturday, I had the incredible opportunity to open for a band that I have been a fan of for about 12 years, the Pat McGee Band.  The video below is...

My dad taught me to play guitar when I was 13, almost exclusively on the same porch we recorded this video yesterday. It was kinda cool to record this little jam session with my Dad... on Father's Day... in the very room where he taught me most of what I learned about playing music!

Chris Smith Band: Home Jam Sessions- Save the Last Dance For Me (Drifters ukulele cover)

I remember hearing this song on the oldies radio station from the time I was a little kid.  As I got older, i would listen to the lyrics and I used to think about why this guy was so into this woman... "You can dance with the guy let him hold you tight'".  And then he had to remind her to not forget who was taking her home and to save him the last dance.  I used to think, "this woman does not seem like a nice person at all".

Then my dad had told me about the origin of the song and I read a little bit about its history.  It was written by Doc Pomus on his wedding day.  Pomus had polio and was in a wheelchair and wanted his wife to dance and have fun on her wedding day, but that he was having the last dance.  Since then, I have had an entirely new appreciation for the song.

So for this week's Home Jam Sessions song, I played Save the Last Dance For Me on the ukulele for a little summer beachy vibe!  Check it out!

Chris Smith Band: Home Jam Sessions- Hold On (Wilson Phillips Cover)

I thought this would be a fun one to learn this weekend to play at a future live show.  I feel like this is one that the 30-Somethings would sing along to.  Still figuring out how to best do it and what key is best to play it in, but this is where I started.
